Democrats Sweep Radnor Township in Historic Victory

E-mail Print PDF
While the Nation displayed mixed results, Radnor voters called an
altogether different sort of referendum this Election Day.

Yesterday, for perhaps the first time ever and definitely the first time
in any resident's memory, Radnor Township voters tipped the balance of power on
the seven-member Board of Commissioners to the Democrats.

Democrats Elaine Paul Schaefer (Ward 4) and John C. Nagle (Ward 5) both
won their respective wards' commissioner races.  The offices of sitting
commissioners John Fisher (Ward 7) and Bill Spingler (Ward 3) were not up
for re-election this fall, so in January the two newly-elected Democratic
commissioners will help form a 4-3 Democratic majority within the body.

Township Democratic Party Chairman Bruce Bikin said, "Winning was the easy part.  We
had the best candidates.  Now they have to figure out how to steer the township back
on course. That won't be so easy."

As the township tackles difficult fiscal issues resulting from past
mismanagement of ex-township manager David Bashore and largely ignored by
long-term Republican board members, the new board will have its work cut
out for it.

On Curriculum

Change the majority in Radnor.

To the Editor:

Curriculum. It is the content of what the children are taught, and the manner in which they are taught it. Curriculum is the design of a course, and yet a whole lot more. It is the organic coordination of courses within a school system. Finally, curriculum includes the observation and measurement of its own effectiveness: How well are our children being taught? Are they being taught appropriately and with consistency? The creation, delivery and evaluation of curriculum constitute the most important thing a school district does.

RDC Resolution Applauds Manager Removal

Radnor Democratic Committee’s Right-to-Know Subcommittee has operated as an investigative/research committee that studiously avoided drawing conclusions of misconduct or mismanagement at the  township.

At the Radnor Democratic Committee meeting Wednesday, May 6th, members of the RTK Subcommittee reviewed the evidence against the former township manager, David Bashore, as well as the definitive actions taken by the Board of Commissioners.  It was agreed that the Radnor Democratic Committee prepared to make conclusions and go on the record.

The RTK Subcommittee Chair offered a resolution that passed by an overwhelming majority. A copy of the Resolution is to be sent to the Board of Commissioners and newspapers.

RESOLUTION

Whereas, the Radnor Democratic Committee in late 2008 formed a sub-committee to investigate aspects of our Township's management with regard to employment practices over the last several years; and

Whereas, that subcommittee sought and obtained the public release of a large number of official documents in connection with the subject matter it was charged to investigate; and

Whereas, the public disclosure of those documents were instrumental in uncovering several matters of great concern to the taxpaying public; and

More questions than answers

To the Editor:

Incredibly, while still the Radnor Township Manager, Mr. Bashore published and freely circulated in his “Position Statement” clearly confidential personnel information that he had gathered from township employees for an “official investigation” into a hostile workplace.

This is outrageous and unprofessional conduct.
